How to wood carve like a master carpenter

What does CNC mean?

CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control; and this term means exactly as stated; Computer - every point on a design is translated to a one or zero which means a mathematical representation of the point in space. Numerical - every facet of the design in three dimensions (popularly known as 3d) is plotted' Control- means exactly what it says; the machine obeys the design faithfully.

Principles of 3d wood carving

Wood carving in 2d was the start that allowed outlining a flat silhouette; the technology evolved into the 2.5d which meant creating recessed outlines and the cutting tool moved horizontally and sideways to replicate the x and y axis of a graph. From this point onwards technology took a quantum leap as the software allowed the tool cutter to assign depth thus creating the z-axis dimension for the 3d effect. By treating the design layer by layer, sculpting the required design in 3d is a snap. By changing the tool cutter profile interesting shapes like a chisel effect (to look as if a real craftsman has carved the design) can be had. The design capability of a CNC Router Woodworking machine is only constrained by the imagination. Curves, straight lines, angles, curlicues, whorls - all these elements can be designed to give a baroque look or creating spaces designed to heighten shadows  can enhance a wooden screen that will be the envy of any harem of a bygone era - conceal but yet be seen.

The environment elements which might affect cnc wood router processing are:
1. Power supply. 
    The affection from power supply to processing is most direct. Every electrical spare parts is with power, frequency range. The overlading of any spare parts will cause the unstability of whole system. Usually it will cause offseting. 
2. Vibration
    Vibration will cause often cutter broken, unsmooth surface of workpiece. Mainly reasons are touching cnc machine in the process, levelness of machine is not ok, or punching machine is around. 
3. Environment Temprature
    Environment temprature and humidity will affect the performance of control system, drivng motor. When the environment temprature over 40 centi degree, may cause wrong control, torch from motor may can not up to the right value.
4. Dust
    Dust may affect radiating and sensativity of electronic components. 
5. Thunder

1. Acrylic cutting. Suggest one flute spiral bits. The advantage is there is no smoke, odourless, high speed, no powerder sticky, its special manufacturing skill could ensure no broken acrylic caused while procesing, bit trace is rather slim, even no trace, the cutting surface is with fine brightness and smoothness. If you prefer the sandblasting on processing surface, suggest double or tri-flute spiral bits.
2. MDF cutting. Suggest double large flute spiral bits. The bits are with double high volumn chip groove, good at of powder removing and bits balance. No smoke and no black caused while processing MDF.
3. Aluminium plate processing on cnc router. Suggest one flute spiral bits special for aluminium. No sticking phenomenon, high speed and excellent working performance.
4. Fine Relief sculpture. Suggest radiused bottom engraving bits.
5. Large size deep relief sculpture processing for soft wood, MDF, raw wood, PVC, acrylic. Suggest one flute spiral ball bits.
6. Up down cut burr-free cutting, suggest one flute or two flute up down cut engraving bits.
7. High density board, suggest com teeth end mill.
8. Multi-layer, palywood processing. Suggest double straight flute bits.
9. Acrylic surface etching, suggest diamond flat bottom engraving bits.
10. Roughing machining particle board, suggest cup cut with chip-breaker spiral bits on cnc router.

It may occurs misalignment when cnc wood router works, there are several reasons may cause this problem,
1. Driving motor. Electronic devices and componets in the driving motor could cause misalignment appearance. If this appearance is not ofen, try to reduce the cnc router moving speed to see if still with disalignment. If always with disalignment, then have to fix or replace driving motor.
2. Voltage. CNC router requires higher power, if voltage is lower than noramally need, the lower power will cause disalignment, usually occursed on y axis. This may because of outsider voltage lower or there is with high power device on the same wire, such as electric welding. The solution is mounting on 5000w stabilized power supply with the tolerance less than 5%.
3. Interface board, mainboard, pinboard. If these boards are with problem, then cnc wood router one axis or three axis does not move, this will cause cnc router with disalignment.
4. Motor. If it is because of stepper motor or servo motor, then the machine will not move on certain direction, will not move even if you turn the ballscrew.
5. Machine body. Some spare parts loosen, impurity on surface also could cause disalignment. Take example, if shaft joint is loosen or broken, can cause disalignment, if no clean up or oil on guide and orbit, also could cause disalignment.
